Vermiculit Wasser speichernder Bodenverbesserer
Vermiculit ist der Name für eine Gruppe von hydrierten, schichtförmigen Mineralien (Aluminium-Eisen-Magnesium-Silikate), die wie Glimmer aussehen. Perlit findet man ebenfalls in Blumenerde, aber Vermiculit ist der Wasserhaltung weit überlegen.
Gärtnerisches Vermiculit wird unter starker Hitze verarbeitet und dehnt sich dabei zu akkordeonförmigen Pellets aus, die aus mehreren Schichten dünner Platten bestehen. Es verrottet nicht, zersetzt sich nicht, schimmelt nicht und ist dauerhaft, geruchlos, ungiftig und steril.
Wird Vermiculit dem Gartenboden oder Blumenerde zugesetzt, verbessert es die Wasser- und Nährstoffspeicherung sowie die Belüftung des Bodens. Das Ergebnis sind gesündere und kräftigere Pflanzen.
Obwohl Vermiculit im Vergleich zu Perlit weniger Luft speichern kann, ist es für Pflanzen, die mehr Feuchtigkeit bevorzugen, die richtige Wahl.

Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood, Hecht and Colin describe employing a process similar to that a tailor might use to cut a pattern in fabric. This approach resulted in the beautiful structure wherein the moulded back and arms component is supported by a simple A-frame wood dowel construction. One of the benefits of this design is an increase in comfort due to natural movement in the plywood back.
