Eine 400-Volt-HPS-Lampe ist wesentlich effizienter als eine Standard-HPS-Lampe. Beide Systeme verbrauchen 1000 Watt und verursachen dadurch exakt die gleichen Betriebskosten, aber die Pro-HPS-Lampen arbeiten mit einer höheren Spannung und einem niedrigeren Strom. 400-Volt-Pro-HPS-Lampen erzeugen mehr Licht bei gleichem Energieverbrauch und liefern mindestens 10% mehr Ertrag im Vergleich zu selbst den besten Standard-HPS-Systemen. Tatsächlich sind die HPS-Pro-Lampen, wenn man sie nebeneinander sieht, deutlich heller, laufen kühler und das Licht, das sie erzeugen, ist etwas weißer. Somit sorgen sie nicht nur für einen höheren Ertrag, sondern die unter einer 400-Volt-Pro-HPS-Lampe gezogenen Pflanzen sind auch gesünder, vitaler und weniger hitzegefährdet.
Das System funktioniert so, dass der britische Netzstrom (230 Volt) direkt über ein Standard-Netzkabel zum kombinierten Vorschaltgerät und Reflektor geführt wird. Das spezielle Vorschaltgerät wandelt dann den Netzstrom um, um die spezielle doppelseitige 400-Volt-/1000-Watt-EL-Lampe zu betreiben.
Diese 400-Volt-/1000-Watt-Lampen behalten ihre Effizienz und Lichtleistung deutlich länger als Standard-HPS-Lampen. In der Regel halten sie mindestens ein Jahr, bevor sie ausgetauscht werden müssen. Es sollte beachtet werden, dass normale HPS-Lampen und 400-Volt-Pro-HPS-Lampen NICHT mit unterschiedlichen Vorschaltgeräten austauschbar sind. Standard-HPS-Lampen sollten nur mit Standard- oder digitalen 230-Volt-Vorschaltgeräten betrieben werden. 400-Volt-Pro-HPS-Lampen dürfen nur in Beleuchtungssystemen mit einem 400-Volt-Pro-HPS-Vorschaltgerät wie beispielsweise bei diesem Gavita-Produkt verwendet werden.
